Is there a warranty on sod?
There is no warranty on sod, but we guarantee if you water it, it’ll grow and if you don’t, it won’t take root and will die.
How is your turf priced?
Pricing is differs by amount and type of sod. We do discount for higher volumes.
Are pallets refundable?
There is a refundable pallet charge of $10.00 per pallet and $20.00 on tubes. This amount is returned to you when you bring the empty pallet/skid back to our farm.
What is your sod’s base?
Our sod is clayback sod – which means it is grown in clay soil, the same that you find in Indiana. This is the same dirt you most likely have in your yard and makes it easier to take root.
What variety of turf do you grow?
Genesis Farms grows an Elite Blend of Kentucky Bluegrass.
What kind of sod do I need?
Kentucky Bluegrass is the sod of choice in Indiana.
How much sod comes on a pallet?
We normally stack 60 small rolls on a pallet, totaling about 600 square feet of turf per pallet, but we can add more or stack less, to customize your order. Our pallets are 4′ by 4′ square, and weigh an average of 1500 to 2000 lbs., depending on how wet the sod is from recent rain, etc.
How do I measure the area?
Sod is sold by the square foot, so square yards must be converted to square feet. For rectangular or square areas, simply multiply the length by the width (in feet) to get your square footage.
For odd shaped areas, either break the area down into as many measurable rectangles and squares as you can, or measure the longest and widest points and multiply. You can then subtract a small amount, but keep in mind that it is always better to have too much than not enough.
It is recommended to add 5% to your final measured amount.
How much time in advance do I need to order?
As with most any order, the sooner it is placed the better. Typically we require 24 hours for pickup, a 2 to 3 day notice for deliveries, and 5 to 7 days for installation. This does not mean we cannot operate on a shorter notice, but we take orders on a first come, first served basis, so we may not be able to offer your first choice of delivery time.
The more notice you can give us the better your chances we can offer a delivery time of your choice. We will always be as flexible and as accommodating as possible in all scheduling.
Weather can play a factor in our ability to provide sod in a timely manner.
How do I care for my sod right after it is installed?
To ensure proper root growth, you want to water at least one hour at a time, at least twice a day. The first day your lawn is down, you’ll want to get the sprinklers on as soon as you can and keep water on the sod for at least 5-6 hours. You want to water your sod at least two hours every day about one inch of water per day. Keep the sod too soggy to walk on for about two weeks. After two weeks you will be able to mow.
Make sure you set the mower on the highest setting so you do not crop it too short. After the first two weeks, water as needed. Make sure you water even if it rains, and you cannot over water! It is best to water early in the morning and late in the evening. You must avoid watering during the heat of the day or you run the risk of burning up your new sod.
How do you prepare your yard?
Remove existing lawn, rototill to a depth of 4-6 inches and remove all weeds, clods and debris. Rake and level and you’ll be set for installation
